Jev lands in n8n as a node for branching and routing

n8n pitches the node as a smarter If/Switch for the fuzzy conditions a regular rule cannot express.

n8n says Jev now runs as a node inside its workflow builder. The node returns a choice plus a confidence number, and n8n says you can use both for branching, sorting and routing. Its framing is that Jev's job is not to write, it is to decide.

The pitch is aimed squarely at the gap every n8n user has hit. The existing If and Switch nodes evaluate rules you write by hand, which works when the condition is a field equals a value and falls apart when the condition is whether a support message sounds angry or whether an inbound lead is worth a human. n8n's own description for that case is "a smarter If/Switch for the fuzzy stuff".

The confidence value is the part worth noticing. A node that only emits a label forces you to treat every decision as equally certain, which is how automated workflows end up routing a coin flip straight into a customer email. A node that emits a number lets you set a threshold, send the low confidence cases to a human branch and keep the rest moving. Whether the number is calibrated well enough to threshold on is a separate question, and nothing in the announcement addresses it.

What is missing

No latency figure, no per-call cost, no accuracy on any task. That matters more than usual here because n8n workflows are loops. A node that is fine on one item can be the whole runtime and the whole bill when it runs over a few thousand rows from a spreadsheet or a CRM export, and nobody has posted what happens at that scale yet.

Diogo Almeida, who has been among the more skeptical voices on Jev demos, replied to the announcement saying he was "super excited for this". That is the reaction, not a result.

For people building on it, treat the node as untested on your data. The confidence number is only useful if you measure where your own threshold should sit, and the announcement gives you no starting point for that.
